The fastest way to get indexed by search engines

The fastest way to get indexed (to have information about your site in the search engine database) and to be "findable" or "searchable" by search engines is to get a link from a website that already has been indexed and regularly spidered (crawled or having a kind of robotic program that enables search engines to read what is in your website), preferably by a high PageRank website like this one whose main page (home or index page) (click BACK button to get back to this page) has 6 (at time of publishing. There is such a thing as what they call Google Dance, that is, PageRank of a site changing with time.) If you want to know how to get the PageRank of your own and other sites, refer to How to get the PageRank of your blog or any other website. Note that the actual PageRank used by Google search engine may not be exactly the same as what you get via this method as Google takes some time to update it, but it is a very good guide.

If you want to find if your website or blog is indexed, type

site: website or blog URL

into the search box in the Header of this blog, tick the radio button (.) Web (currently the search box is configured to search this blog only by default. By ticking the radio button beside WEB, the Google search engine will search the whole web. To make it clearer, type or copy paste

site: bloggerfordummies.blogspot.com

into the search box above, tick the radio button ( ) beside WEB and press the ENTER key and you should that there are results. If you see no result, please alert me by leaving a comment and I will have to check what is wrong.

If you are not knowledgeable regarding What is URL and how to get it, click on the link and learn more about it. Substitute bloggerfordummies.blogspot.com with the URL of your own website or blog in site:

site: yourblog.com

into the search box above, tick the radio button for WEB and search. No result - not indexed yet. If you get some results, your site is already indexed.

I have many blogs, and if you are in a hurry, you can contact me via the "Click here to contact me" link near the bottom of the left sidebar and I will see if I can help.

Note that normally your blog or website will eventually be indexed even if you do nothing, but your site may rank very low in search engines. When surfers search for topics relevant to your site, that is, whatever they are searching for is contained in your site, the link to your site in the SERP (Search Engine Result Page) may be buried so deep in it you will not see it, but it is there.

Hi Peter

How can I get the search engine to show only the link to one post instead of all posts on that page?

I write on topical events in Malaysia, and when visitors key in long-tail keywords, my blog might show up on first page of the search results.

However I notice that they don't stay at all - 0 seconds. I think it's because they land on page that is not relevant to their keywords. That page that the searh engine directs them to usually contain posts made on other topics, and the visitor needs to scroll down to look for the posts that contains the searched keywords.

What are the options I can set in blogger to make the search engine display only the link to that relevant post?

I have been your silent reader for a few months, and I didn't recall you writing about this. You are doing a good job in simplifying blogging using blogger.

Note : If you see 2 comments from me, please delete the first one, because I don't know what happen to the first comment I made.

Hi Elaine,

Sorry to approve your comment late. I am not an SEO or search engine expert, but was hoping I can do some research to answer your question properly. Unfortunately I do not have the luxury as there are many things I need to do among which are
VK Lingam Tape: Former Lord President Tun Slleh Abas to speak
. I will record the URL of this post and put it into my long list of To Do's and hope I will get a chance to get back to it, but I suspect new things will keep cropping up.

Meantime, perhaps you can try doing some testing with meta tags (some supposed to be ignored by some search engines, but not all, plus it may influence how your links in the SERP (Search Engine Result Page) looks.

Don't know if you will find some useful info in the following post which I have no time to check:

Meta tags for Blogger

If you find any deficiency or new useful info, will appreciate feedback.

Peter, Peter, Peter! You have helped me so much. I am having difficulty with the signature at the end of the post. I orginally got it to work and then I copy and pasted the whole html into a new blog. Now when I try to change the signature post, it says that there is more than 1html widget. Also, I created a new name because of SEO (using words that were highly searched and using hypens) but Feedburner is indicating that I could optimize my feed address. No doubt you are a genius -- and happy Thanksgiving by the way -- but could you assist me. I am a mature woman with a young girl's heart that is trying to blog...

Hi Peter. When I enter my new blog in the search engine and click the radio "web" button, it does not come up.

Thanks ahead of time.

Hi girl-woman,

You will first have to see if your blog had been indexed. Don't just type in the URL, but type

site:URL as explained in the post.

Even after the blog had been indexed, it may not be ranked highly, so it will appear in the SERP (Search Engine Result Page), but it may be buried so deep in the SERP you may have to do a lot of clickings before you see your blog.

What a grateful blogger did for me
(no one should feel obligated. Everything completely voluntary. However, by doing so, you may also help your visitors find helpful information and help. You may even pick up various ways of linking sites there too)

If possible, get a friend who has a blog which is already indexed to put an active link to your blog.
